AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Weekly Debriefing Week 2: 0-8-4

Week 2 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings us one of my favorites of the season so far with some fun action,
great dialogue and a wonderful final scene which is a full on geekgasm!  As usual, spoilers will be minimal as best as this show is to be enjoyed not spoiled!

Title of the Episode: 0-8-4

Who Wrote it?: Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffery Bell

What's it about?: Agent Coulson and his team head to Peru to investigate an item of interest with the code number 0-8-4.  Down in Peru, the team come across an old colleague of Coulson's and the item which has some interesting properties

Any Guest Stars, Super Heroes, etc?: Tony Stark gets mention as a consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D. and the item that is the maguffin for the episode is German in origin and has some interesting properties that tie into the universe set up by the Marvel Phase 1 films.

Do I Need to See the Movies to Enjoy the Episode?: No but again, it certainly won't hurt to do so because there are some nice ties throughout the show that simply are too much fun for the die hard fans like myself.  And that last scene is a hoot.  I refuse to spoil exactly what happens but I got a good laugh out of it and it opens the floodgates for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a way that makes me VERY excited to see what they do next!

What did Rick think?: Last week was the warm up.  We finally get to see just how awesome these Agents are in action.  We also get to see Melinda May (Ming Na) cut loose and see why her character was essentially brought out of retirement.  The stuff on the airplane in the second half is intense, fun, and exciting.  It was very refreshing to not have a "Freak of the Week" type scenario which was a fatal flaw for me with Smallville.  The mystery item was a nice way to help separate the show from other genre titles as was the final part of the show.  Highly recommended!

Final Verdict: A
