JediCole here. This Saturday I will have the privilege of acting as emcee for Strip: The Dallas Webcomics Expo for the third year of the four year history of this convention. Strip is a unique convention that brings together a variety of comic creators who’s work is found primarily (if not exclusively) on the internet. In addition many traditional print media artists are also in attendance.
This show provides a great opportunity to discover the world of virtual publishing by meeting the actual writers and artists in person. Lively panels, hosted by yours truly, are featured throughout the day on a variety of topics. Many budding webcomic creators find both inspiration and insight from attending this show. One of last year’s panel guests was an attendee the previous year! Strip is a great place to discover web publishing, get pointers on creating both traditional and digital artwork, and meet some amazing folks.
2012’s hourly panel topics include “Why I Love Webcomics!”, “All About Podcasting”, and “Webscience – The Tech Behind Webcomics”.
In addition to a full day of panels, I have been asked to bring my All-Con favorite show Finish It! Finish It! to Strip for the second time. If you have seen this show at All-Con or Texas Comic Con you know it is a fun way to interact directly with a panel of artists. Also, Rick Gutierrez of the United States of Geekdom will be attending with Mrs. JediCole to promote the USG and The JediCole Universe websites.
And don’t forget to stay after the show for the charity art auction. A variety of artists will be creating original works during the course of the evening which will be auctioned to the highest bidder. Last year Crow creator James O’Barr produced an incredible watercolor image of Deckard from Blade Runner in just over an hour during the auction! Again this year the auction will be hosted by none other than the Mighty Placeholder!
