Thanksgiving 2011...or when it turns maudlin

Dear Confederates,

It's Thanksgiving again, and thoughts tend to bend to what we are thankful for since we last thought about it, most likely this time last year. Don't feel bad about that, we are only human, mostly anyways. I can say, that I am a lucky man. I have a lot to be thankful for. I have a family that cares about me, an amazing girlfriend that loves and supports me. I have a roof over my head, food at my disposal...whenever i want it. I have magnificent friends, a job that I actually enjoy, that challenges me and supports me everyday. I am fortunate that I have never ever really had to learn grammar, as evidenced by this post. I really don't want for much. This would be a great forum me to continue to rave about these things, but that isn't why I am here, not tonight.

Tonight, I want to talk to you a little about this show that I am the honor of being a part of on a weekly basis. You see, this thing that we do here, this podcast...and the surrounding universe that we have managed to kinda build around it is something that I am very thankful for. I don't talk too much about fate and serendipity, but I would have to be a little blind to think that it didn't play a part in this. Somehow the stars aligned and Rick and Cole found me, an orphaned geek with no digital home to hang my hat. They saw something in me, and took me in. They gave me a home here, made me a third (now fourth, or fifth, or something like that) in their grand plan to create something....a place that like minded people can come and share their particular views (even if, to this day, they have a hard time seeing it that way).

As time passed, we have found more like us. We have Catherine on the show, and she is wonderful. Stubeef Baulk is gracious enough to lend us his talents on a weekly basis, and he can't know what that means to me. We have developed a community of podcasters, and more importantly...of friends. Hunter, Jim, Roy, Molly, and everyone else that has come into my life because of this amazing thing that we do every week...man I am lucky.

You know, it's crazy to think about it...what we do. We record and produce a show on a bi-weekly basis. I don't think those out there that haven't done it know what a task it is. It's hard work....I don't cut the shows, despite my best intentions, but those that do, I don't envy it. We record our voices every week, talking about things from the mundane to the fantastic, from the chaste to the raunchy. We put ourselves out there for the world to hear it. It's a strange feeling to know that I can hear myself talk about anything from the movie Red Dawn, to the impact of my Father on just about every aspect of my life, at a moments notice with an internet connection.

Everyone out there, in these...our...United States of Geekdom...I am thankful for you. I am thankful for your support and your voices. For your heart, and soul, and general love for all things fringe. I am thankful that I am not alone out here. Rick and Cole, Catherine and Stu, Hunter and everyone else out there that has been gracious enough to join us...either on the show or by listening, or just in spirit....Thank you. You can't know what it means to me, or to us. Happy Thanksgiving 2011 everyone!

Andrew!

ps....spell check...I am really thankful for that too!
