The Skinny: Two cop killing bank robbers hijack an RV with a family onboard and cross the border into Mexico and hole up in a bar that just may be infested with vampires.

The Good:  I will start this by saying that I saw this movie six times in the theater.  I quite enjoyed it a lot, mostly because a friend was able to comp me into the movie most of those times.  That said, this movie is a lot of fun.  It starts out as a very dark road movie with these characters and when the characters reach the bar, it takes a turn from dark and pretty serious, to just completely insane and pretty damn funny.

This is the movie that made George Clooney a star.  He was already famous because of ER.  This movie however, made him a force to be reckoned with.  He brings it in his role as Seth Gecko and is simply a bad ass.  Juliette Lewis, Harvey Keitel, and Fred Williamson are all awesome as well.  Salma Hayek in her second movie following Rodriguez's Desperado is simply insanely gorgeous in her all-too-brief role as the vampire queen Santanico Pandemonium.

The two that steal every single scene that they are in however are Cheech Marin and Tom Savini.  Marin has three different roles in the flick.  He plays a border guard and Seth's friend Carlos.  But the role he is best known for in this movie is Chet and his incredibly funny and raunchy speeches outside the bar.  Easily one of the funniest things I have heard in a movie but WAY too raunchy for me to post in this article.

And then there is Tom Savini as Sex Machine.  He has this crotch gun that is insanely funny when you first see it, and then it goes to just completely bugnuts when he actually uses it.  Savini steals every scene with his delivery of lines.  Sex Machine is easily my favorite character in the movie.

The vampire effects are pretty great.  The make up ranges from simple face stuff to something as elaborate as a vampire with a mouth that takes up the entire stomach.  Insane all around and just a lot of fun.

The Bad: Two performances are a MAJOR bone of contention for me in this movie.  The first is Tarantino who hams it up so badly throughout it's almost as if he was in a completely different movie.  He is a fantastic director. I will give him that.  Actor?  Not so much.  Also, Ernest Liu, who plays the adopted son of Harvey Keitel.  His delivery of the lines is less that stellar.  I know, he is a first time actor and whatnot but still, his weaknesses as an actor show horribly throughout the movie.

The Ugly: Check out the guitar the freshly vamped band use as an instrument and tell me that is normal.

My final verdict: 4 exploding vampires out of 5
