31 Days of Horror Day 15: "BOBBIE JO!!!!!!!!"

Title of Movie: Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn

Actors: Bruce Campbell

Quotable Line: "Groovy" and so many other lines and quips and "Campbell-isms," that I could write a book.

Director: Sam Raimi

Released:1987

The Skinny: The lone survivor of an onslaught of flesh-possessing spirits holds up in a cabin with a group of strangers while the demons continue their attack.

The Good: You thought that Evil Dead couldn't get any more insane? Then try Evil Dead II on for size. This movie makes the first Evil Dead look like a kiddie ride at the amusement park. Evil Dead II takes everything from the first movie, and turns it to 11. The scene where our hero Ash takes a chainsaw to his evil hand and the build up to it is an absolute standout as an incredibly comical scene very much in the style of The Three Stooges. Campbell proves that he is not only a great leading man, but also one of the greatest B movie actors of all time. The gore is insane in this movie, the comedy is even more insane than the gore. The movie ends on a cliff hanger where he gets sent to the middle ages and sets up "Army of Darkness" which is just as much fun as this one. Another standout performance is by Sam's brother Ted Raimi as Henrietta. I will just say this. Henrietta is a lot of fun in the movie and is one of the standouts for sure. There are just so many things to love about this flick. Highest possible recommendation.

The Bad: There are moments where the camera is so low that you can see the rafters of the sound stage where they filmed the movie. That said, nothing else that wouldn't be nitpicking.

The Ugly: Henrietta's final form. Yikes!

My final verdict: 5 evil severed hands out of 5
