JediCole here with a look at some great action figures based on this summer’s Marvel movies. With Thor coming out this very weekend I would be foolish not to lead with a pair of figures from Marvel Select that capture the look of these cinematic characters better than any other action figures out there.

First we have the big man (or is that god?) himself, Thor! Like all of Marvel Selects’ recent releases, this figure was produced by the folks at Art Asylum. They are renowned for their work on television and movie licensed action figures and continue to deliver.

Every aspect of the costume and look of the character is captured perfectly. And when you throw in that hammer, which is every bit as substantial in this figure form as it is on screen, you have a toy of heroic proportions. But then that is what we have come to expect from Marvel Select!

And since every hero needs a challenge we are also being treated to Thor’s scheming half-brother Loki. As with his brother, this figure serves up a perfect likeness of both actor and costume. No detail is missed!

But wait! This is the Summer of Geeky Movies! So Marvel Select will also be tempting collectors with a pair of offerings from Captain America: The First Avenger! Cap himself is presented in his final movie incarnation with his famous round shield. If you want a good look at what the costume will be like, this is as good as they come outside of production stills.

And then there is the other side of the coin, the dark face of evil that acts as the counterpoint to the heroics of Captain America. I am speaking of his arch nemesis the Red Skull! Wow! Does this figure capture not only the look but also the menace of the vile mastermind behind the challenges of America’s Greatest Hero (at least on screen this summer).

All four of these incredible action figures should be available soon at your local comic shop. Marvel Select action figures are sold exclusively to the direct market so don’t go looking for them on the pegs at Target or Toys R Us, you won’t find these beauties hanging alongside the Hasbro movie toys. No launching missiles or oversized gimmick-laden weapons here. Just the real deal movie figures collectors and fans crave!

All figures will stand approximately 7” tall and bear a retail price tag of $21.99 each.

Okay, just a couple of picks from me this week.  For the rest of the releases, check out our buddy Hunter's movie release blog at this place right here!

!!!PICK OF THE WEEK!!!
THE GREEN HORNET

Surprisingly enough, I loved the hell out of this movie.  It was smartly written, it was fun, and the two leads were clearly having a blast playing super heroes. Good stuff all around.  Seth Rogen does a great take on the character and pays good tribute to the original source material. Jay Chou is a revelation. He is incredible as Kato and it is a lot of fun watching him kick some serious ass.  Unfortunately this movie did not get the audience it deserved so the chances of there being a sequel are slim to none.  Regardless, I loved Green Hornet quite a bit and it is definitely one that is absolutely worth your time!

!!!PICK OF THE WEEK!!!
FROM DUSK TILL DAWN

Ah yes, the movie that put George Clooney on the map and skyrocketed him into the upper echelon of popularity.  This is just a fun, goofy vampire movie.  The filmmakers are clearly having a blast and it definitely shows.  It takes its time getting to the vampires but when it hits, it hits hard and continues hitting until the movie ends.  Tom Savini as Sex Machine is fantastic and nothing like Fred Williamson and Harvey Keitel chewing up scenery as best as they can!  Definitely recommended!
