Once again I must give a nod to our friends at Mattel and MattyCollector!  Begining on Monday, May 16 at 9:00 A.M. Pacific Time (11:00 A.M. Central) the latest batch of fast-moving exclusive offers goes live.  Along with a few non-exclusives that may prove hard to find on store pegs.  This is going to be a big one for fans of Masters of the Universe and pretty much any Green Lantern collectors out there.  Hmmmm...I wonder if our resident GL Geek will be taking notice of this week's Buy Me, Fanboy?

So with Andrew in mind I lead with a couple of exclusive Green Lantern offerings followed by those that, while available elsewhere, are certainly easy enough to find on MattyCollector come Monday.  So we begin with that unlikely member of the Green Lantern Corps (you can thank the Crisis on Infinite Earths for leaving the Guardians no choice but to bring this jerk on board), Guy Gardner!

The smart-mouthed Green Lantern and Justice League Europe member Guy Gardner gets the vintage Mego action figure treatment!  And you can only get him online...if you hurry.  Yes, I see this one selling out perhaps even on Monday.  Before the end of the week if not.  Mattel has shown considerable love for the Green Lantern mythos in this series of articulated action figures with cloth costumes.  Guy Garnder's unique (and I dare say quite '80's) take on the traditional GL garb is captured in every detail.  Right down to his ridiculously oversized boots!  He even comes with the necessary power battery lantern to keep up the good fight in his own way.

Green Man Green Lantern Movie Masters Action Figure ($25)
About a month ago I profiled this particular Green Lantern figure based on the upcoming feature film.  Well it is finally getting offered to a collectibles-hungry public.  To learn more about the Green Man, check out the Collector Sector from the week of April 13.  This is another I believe will go quickly as it is the only venue through which you can purchase this figure.  If you are seeking to gather thogether all of the movie incarnations of the Corps then you won't want to miss out on this gigantic figure!

And if you are looking to get all of the movie figures, there is one currently in stores, G'Hu.  Rick has this figure already but some of the others from the same series (which allow you to build the massive robotic Green Lantern Stel) have proved elusive.  And in my experience some figures are hard to find in some areas of the country while others are commonplace.  If you can't find this guy (or any of the other five from this particular run), the MattyCollector offerings may help you get old Stel built and be worth the price of $15 a pop!
The remaining figures in the Stel series are not based on the movie incarnations of characters but rather their comic appearances (since Mattel alredy has many slated for their Movie Masters line).  The remaining figures in this run are Sodam Yat, Star Saphire: Carol Ferris, a three-pack featuring Dex-Starr, Despotellis, and B'dg, and two figures that come with interchangable heads (and in one case hands as well) so they can be one or the other of two different characters.  These figures are the Green Lanterns Medphyll and Naut Kei Loi and the Red Lanterns Shallox and Nite-Lik!

And then there are the latest Club Eternia offerings for Masters of the Universe.  It seems that both He-Man and She-Ra's legends are alive and well over at Mattel.  And with good reason.  The Eternians have certainly put that toy company on top for many years running.  Some of the latest batch are re-releases while some appear to be new to the "Club".

She-Ra and Catra ($20 each)
I don't know too much about She-Ra or her (it would seem to me) arch nemesis.  But I am sure to long-standing fans of the show and the action figure lines the re-release of She-Ra and the addition of the evil Catra will be most welcome.  Each comes with a variety of accessories which include classic and updated looks to each of their "masks".  One of the things that is really remarkable about the contemporary MOTU line is the use of extra heads or accessories to give collectors the option of the "classic" or "modern" look.

Whiplash ($20), another re-released figure is a good example of this fact as he sports a head invoking his original toothsome countenance and his less comical reimagined look.  Also being offered again is the airial hero Stratos ($20).  This winged warrior captures the feel of his predicessor while having an updated look all his own.

And not to step on Rick's toes I had to share something with our great friend Stu (of the Midnight Movie Cowboys) in mind.  The DVD Basement features the upcoming new releases on a very timely basis, so I think I can get away with this one solely because it is nothing that will be available right away.  And since it is a personal favorite from childhood I can't resist sharing the news in my segment of the Collector Sector.

The DVD in question is Herculoids: The Complete Animated Series and will be available from Warner Archive and WBshop beginning June 14, 2011.  Preorders are being accepted for the two-disc set (containing all 18 episodes plus a featurette) for $29.95.

And don't worry Stu, I'll be happy to order one in for you.  I have a feeling I will want this one for myself as well.  I loves me some Herck-a-Loids!  (Thanks to Rick for letting me horn in on some DVD action, by the way.)

So with that I will bid you a fond farewell and remind you to...Get Out There and Collect!  (Especially you Mr. Green Lantern Farmer!)

Before I jump into things here in the DVD basement, I have it on good authority that the DC Universel Legends Green Lantern figures that have the pieces to build Stel (and he's a HUGE figure as you can see here in this picture) are all Wal-Mart Exclusives only.  Which might explain why they are so elusive.  Sure, you can plunk down $20 at the comic book store but why would you want to when the thrill of the hunt is so much more fun?

Anyway, here are the releases for the this week on DVD and Blu Ray.  Not a whole hell of a lot to be honest that really piqued my interest as far as newer releases but a couple of really solid older films that are getting a single release for sure.

ALIEN
Simply classic film and the kickstarter of a really successful franchise.  There is great talent at work here and this movie is creepy, thrilling, and definitely does not disappoint.  The Blu Ray transfer is nothing short of perfection.

ALIENS
James Cameron delivered one hell of a thrill ride with this one!  While Alien was moody, atmospheric, and creepy, Aliens goes from suspense film to just full on action.  This movie doe snot disappoint, the action sequences are insane, and the final fight with Ripley and the Queen Alien is jaw droppingly awesome!  Highest possible recommendation!

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Redford and Newman in one of my favorite westerns ever.  This movie is exciting, hilarious, and even heartbreaking.  The script by William Goldman is brilliant and the music and directing is top notch.  Definitely a recommended movie if you have never seen it!

PATTON
I will be seeing this one soon.  I have to.  So many people have been talking it up that I need to see what everyone is talking about and I have to experience this movie and George C. Scott's incredible performance for myself.  Once I do, I will be posting it as a continuing my film education article for sure!
