It’s DC Week for Buy Me, Fanboy! DC Universe Online to be more specific. The Massively-Multiplayer Online Game from Sony has inspired an entire line of statues from DC Direct based on the art of fan-favorite artist Jim Lee. To date the series has given us Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and Catwoman. And it is not slowing down any time soon! In fact between May and August of this year we will be graced with no less than five more statues in this line!

Wonder Woman
(May 18, $85.00)
This is an incredible rendition of the Amazon princess, but then it is based on a Jim Lee design! And when it comes to statues of their characters, DC Direct continues to create collectibles gold.

Wonder Woman holds a unique place in the DC pantheon as one of their flagship trinity, yet she is often the forgotten member when it comes to that star grouping. But her fan base is no less loyal or demanding than that of Superman or Batman. And this is a statue that will deliver what her fans demand. The statue stands a striking 7.8” tall.

The Flash
(June 22, $85.00)
DC Comics’ “Fastest Man Alive” is commemorated in this dynamic statue that leads the June releases in the DC Universe Online series. Flash is another of those characters who is often overlooked, yet has a fan base that is huge and loyal. And fans of the Scarlet Speedster should be happy with this rendition of their favorite character.

The Flash statue stands 5.5” tall (due to his running pose) and will look quite impressive in many a collection this summer.

Black Canary
(June 22, $85.00)
You have to love the DC Universe! They have more super-heroines in fishnet stockings per capita than any other publisher! There is just something about them fishnets, eh? And here we have the statue rendition of one of DC’s fishnet pioneers, Black Canary.

This is a statue that fans will be screaming for! I like the design on this one as it accentuates the heroic qualities of the character without having to depict her in the process of using her powers. It is not like she doesn’t have moments where she is not blasting someone with her sonic abilities. Well done, DC Direct! This statue will stand 6.8” in height.

Solomon Grundy
(August 24, $90.00)
He’s a big fellow, that’s for sure!

No, this is not the new White Hulk, the latest member of the seemingly ongoing “Hulk Rainbow”, it’s Solomon Grundy! Perhaps the most successful super-villain based on a nursery rhyme, Sol here looks like he’s ready to smash, clobber, or just down right rend someone limb from limb!

The impressively massive statue of Grundy will be 7.25” tall but also sports a sizeable 6.75” width and 5.25” depth. That is where the other $5 went!

Zatanna
(August 24, $85.00)
Annataz si emos dnik fo toh!!

Yes it’s fishnet time again at DC Direct. DC’s mistress of backward incantations gets the full-scale statue treatment as the last summer release in the line. She does her magic on collectors and fans as a 7” tall statue that will appear in many a collection later this year. Animoh! Animoh! Animoh!

Well, that’s it for this installment. See you again in a week with some movie magic selections and another trip back to the my familiar territory, Star Wars. Now get out there and collect!

This week is extremely light on releases I need to be honest.  Two of which I have actually seen and everything else...well..I am not going to talk about them because I can't do them the justice they deserve.  Which is why I am more than happy to direct you over to our buddy Hunter's article about all the other releases for this week!  You can find his article at this place right here.  Anyway, let's get into the latest stuff that I am going to talk about!

!!!PICK OF THE WEEK!!!
FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS
I went into this movie not knowing who Hunter S. Thompson was.  I went into this movie knowing that it was directed by Terry Gilliam and it starred Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro and that it featured some really crazy visuals.  That was all I knew.   I went with two friends who knew about the same as I did about the flick and the three of us were subsequently blown away with how funny the movie was in parts, and yet, how just incredibly dark and horrifying it was as well. Regardless, this is an incredibly well made movie, the story behind the making of this flick is a hoot and the Hunter S. Thompson audio commentary in this set is utterly hysterical.  It is easily in my top ten movie commentaries of all time!

SOUTH PARK SEASON 14
Any show that features Cthulhu being tickled and having his back scratched by Eric Cartman is worth your attention.  When you don;t think that Trey Parker and Matt Stone have lost their biting sense of satire, they bust out something so wrong and hysterically funny that you know they will always have something more to say on whatever it is, no matter how topical it is!  Highly recommended!
