JediCole here with some great new and upcoming finds for my fellow collectors.  This week I would like to lead with a couple of exclusives from Mattel that will be available at on their website, mattycollector.com.  Yet again they are showing that they are a toy company that recognizes their market and the fact that it is not dominated by children.  Adults are collectors too and have the money to back it up!

This is a well-timed Buy Me, Fanboy as two days from now a trio of much anticipated 12" action figures based on the original Superman films of the 70s will be available on MattyCollector!  Be prepared to spend a super-human amount of cash if you want to get in on these figures as they will set you back a cool $60.00 each!  But my are they worth the price!

You have Superman of course, decked out in the movie accurate garb and ready to do battle with his two arch nemesis, also getting the action figure treatment.  These nasties are of course the Kryptonian exile General Zod and the greatest criminal mind the world has ever known, Lex Luthor!  Zod sports a striking likeness of a younger Terrance Stamp and wears his movie garb that would later be adopted by M.C. Hammer.  Mr. Luthor is stylish in his suit that suggests a great criminal mind does not necessarily go hand in hand with a great fashion sense.

Each of these great figures comes with interchangable hands for various posing options, a display stand, and related accessories.   Superman has a small collumn from the Fortress of Solitude complete with removeable crystals while Zod is equipped with various Earthly projectile weapons that were powerless against him.  With Luthor Mattel went all out!  He comes with three distinctly styled removable wigs, a chain amulet with a chunk of Kryptonite, and even a map of Lexifornia!  I wonder if Otisburg will appear on that map.

While Mattel limits orders to 10 of each figure I expect they will still go fast despite their price tag.  Superman movie memoribilia like this is much sought after and come April 15 you will believe an action figure can fly!  Out of Mattel's inventory that is.

While it has yet to show up on their website, it appears from what I've seen over at Cool Toy Reveiw that Mattel will be offering an exclusive in their Green Lantern Movie Masters line.  In this particular case you had best bring all of your willpower (and green as in cash) to bear if you want to have a complete Green Lantern Corps.  The GL known only as the Green Man will be the MattyCollector exclusive for this line and he is a whopper!  This figure looks to be big enough to give Kilowog a run for his money and is a unique take on a character who, in the comics, gives only the vaguest impression of being at all frog-like.

But then that is the fun of the interpretations of existing Green Lantern characters by the designers of the movie.  I have enjoyed trying to figure exactly who's who (pun intended) when I come across images of the movie renditions of the Corps.  For the most part the production is keeping the spirit of the comic characters while also insuring that every single one of them does not just turn out to be a generic human body sporting a decidedly alien head.  I think Andy will back me up on that particular shortcoming of the alien life that dominates the Green Lantern Corps in comics.

Giving equal time to Hasbro and their line of Marvel Comics figures I am happy to showcase a few of the upcoming figures.  One of my personal favorites in this batch is Dr. Strange.  It is nice to see some classic comic characters getting action figures made of them.  This figure looks like Doc Strange ought to look!  Every detail is captured.  And what is really great is that they are releasing a variant figure cast entirely in translucent plastic!  Yes, that's right, an astral projection version!

Other figures coming down the pike are Skaar (Son of Hulk), Falcon (with the hard light wings), a repaint of Doctor Doom, and the (shudder) Scarlet Spider.  But there is more still to come from Hasbro!  One of the great strengths of this scale of figure (roughly 3.75") is the ability to bring in what would be, to scale, gigantic characters.  In this case it is a set featuring Wolverine pitted against a huge Sentinel!  Yeah, that is what X-Men fans want and Hasbro is delivering a pretty decent looking Sentinel in the process.

And finally we have a great boxed set in honor of the upcoming Captain America feature film.  The set includes the super-patriots of three countries!  This set include Cap of course along with Captain Britain of the U.K. and Red Guardian of Russia.  While this is a great idea and a striking set of figures it suffers from one unfortunate flaw.  It is a K-Mart exclusive.  A K-MART EXCLUSIVE?!  I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, a HUGE metropolitan part of Texas and there is not a K-Mart within 100 miles of here!  Way to go Hasbro!  Give the exclusive to a chain that has almost no outlets!  So if you have friends who live in the vicinity of a K-Mart get them to keep an eye out for you or expect to pay bigger bucks on eBay.

There you have it, my picks for upcoming collectibles for this week.  Now get out there and collect!

BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS

Produced by Roger Corman, effects by James Cameron.  I have heard wonderful, wonderful things about this movie.  I must see this one now and get an idea of what I have been missing out on!  Don't take this particular release too seriously though.  The rumor is that this should be out this week.  If not, it is listed on the Best Buy site as not coming out until July.

!!!PICK OF THE WEEK!!!
THE INCREDIBLES

Easily my favorite of the Pixar movies and easily the best super hero movie ever made that is not based on a comic book.  This movie is fun, funny, and the action sequences are tremendous.  The story is fascinating because it explores the conventions of super-heroism and you see what happens when someone that a super-hero sues the person who saves them because they don't want to be saved.  The scene where Dash has his big revelation that he can cut loose with his super powers is absolutely wonderful.  Michael Giacchino's score is a loving tribute to the early John Barry musical scores of the Bond films.  Highest Possible Recommendation!

!!!PICK OF THE WEEK!!!
HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1
I have officially two favorite Harry Potter movies.  Goblet of Fire is the first.  This one is the second.  Highly recommended because there is some incredible talent at work here.  Read my review here to get the full skinny on this flick!

CARS
Here's the deal.  We are at 65 bits of feedback right now.  I would be remiss to not remind you that we have an ongoing thing here at USG.  If we hit 100 bits of feedback total on the site, iTunes, and via e-mail, Cole and Andy have agreed to watch this movie.  Cole REFUSES to watch this movie.  Absolutely refuses.  But if we hit that number, he has reluctantly agreed to watch Cars.  So get that feedback in!  If I can sit through Furry Vengeance (which I was dared to watch) then Cole can handle a movie about talking cars that is leaps, miles, bounds, and lightyears better than the steaming pile that was Furry Vengeance!  So get that feedback in!  Oh, yeah and Cars is pretty damn good.  The animation is beautiful and the story, while a tad cliche, is still very engaging.

H.R. PUFNSTUF THE COMPLETE SERIES
A great piece of 1970s nostalgia and easily some of the trippiest children's programming you will ever see.  We talked about this one quite fondly back in our Saturday Morning Cartoon episode!
