All-Con Countdown - Twenty Two Days!

Part 9: Talking Over the Movie

Most of the time it is inappropriate and downright rude to talk over a movie while it is running. Even if you are just watching it at home with friends on DVD. But then there are those movies that invite us to talk over them. They welcome it. I daresay they demand it! The Rocky Horror Picture Show certainly fits that bill. Following its disastrous theatrical release in the 70s it was given new life as a midnight movie that then became a weekly subculture.

Los Bastardos will be bringing their own brand of Rocky back to All-Con this year with an unforgettable shadowcast of the movie on Friday night well into Saturday morning. This local troupe have a lot of energy and put on quite the show. And everyone in the audience is a part of that show! From riotous shout-outs to the extensive use of popular props, you don’t just dream it, you BE IT!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Friday, March 18, 2011
Oak Ballroom
Pre-Show: 11 PM-12 AM
Screening with Shadowcast: 12 AM-2 AM

Prop bags (Los Bastardos' "usual parcels of fun") with the requisite Rocky props you need for specific scenes will be available before the show for a nominal fee of $3.00.  Buttons will also be available for $1.00 as will "Glowy Fun Things from $1.00-$5.00 each.

If you are a Rocky Horror "virgin" or just want to know more about Rocky costuming you may want to attend Rocky Horror 411: Costuming and Participating presented by Los Bastardos. This feature will be held in the Addison Theatre from 8-9 PM on Friday, March 18. Then you have three hours to practice the Time Warp before the fun begins!

Can’t get enough shadowcasting? Then be sure to check out Saturday night’s special offering, Repo: The Genetic Opera! I have heard of this but never seen it, much less attended a shadowcast screening so I don’t have a lot of information to provide. I would suspect that this will be another great opportunity to enjoy a film while letting your hair down and getting into the action on screen and off.

Repo: The Genetic Opera
Saturday, March 19, 2011
Whispers Nightclub
Seating/Pre-Show: 11 PM-12 AM
Screening with Shadowcast: 12 AM-2 AM

Both movies are shown free of charge to All-Con 2011 badge holders. Be sure to arrive early for the best seating!

On a fairly related note, be sure to check out the USG's screening of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog on Friday night (starting at 9 PM) in the Addison Theatre! Rick spent the better part of a year making this happen so you had better bet there to join the fun!
