Casting Announced for The Dark Knight Rises...

Hey everybody, Rick here.  Here is a press release from Warner Bros....

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Christopher Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.” Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. “The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

I am very curious about this casting.  Anne Hathaway is a decent enough actress and she would be able to pull off Catwoman I think. She is very attractive and a decent enough actress who would be able to provide what is required of the role.  She would be a definite good romantic interest for Batman and having said that, Hathaway definitely has the sexiness down for the role.

Tom Hardy is a wild card though. I hated him passionately in Star Trek Nemesis.  However, he was fantastic in Inception.  Bane is one of those characters you can screw up immensely.  Batman and Robin was a tremendous fiasco and that was due in part to Jeep Swenson as Bane.  In the comics, Bane is cold, calculating and deadly.  He weakens Batman down to the dregs by releasing all the inmates from Arkham and then lets Batman get to the point of physical and emotional exhaustion and then breaks Batman.  Having said that, I am ambivalent about the casting at the moment.  Nolan clearly knows what he is doing with the casting of these two.  However, I will need to see them in action before I make my final decision.  Like I have said, it is one thing to see the pictures fo the characters but another thing entierly to see the characters moving and interacting with each other.  This should be a fun movie regardless.  Nolan has yet to steer me wrong with any of his movies and I am hoping this will be no exception.

More about this soon as more information comes out.

I really hope Bane is done right. He could make or break this movie. I heard that the Joker will have a small role using leftover footage from The Dark Knight.
