THE UNITED STATES OF GEEKDOM
A podcast by geeks of all trades, for geeks of all trades. We will talk about comic books, movies, TV shows, and all things that make us geeks go tick. Power to the different!

Rick's Update 7: The Gauntlet Returned.

I never thought that when I started coming up with the concept of this show that I would be getting asked as often as I have been about what the title is.  I know that there are some of you who are following us over from Amazing Comicast and for that, thank you.  I also am aware of the fact that those of you who are new to the show don't know who I am to some capacity and due to the forcing of my hand by my illustrious co-host Cole, I now have no choice but to introduce myself and give a little background. Just about everything else will come out with every episode.

I see this as an AA meeting with no twelve step program, because let's face it, it would be a great injustice to quit the geeky stuff I love.

My name is Rick and I am a geek.

I started podcasting as part of a podcast called Vadercast in 2007.  Frustrated by the fact that the show was not coming out on as regular a basis as I would have liked, I went ahead and started my own podcast called Amazing Comicast.  ACC (as I like to call it) will be shutting its doors after episode 60 so that we can make way for this new show, the United States of Geekdom.  The reason being that I found that we weren't talking much about comics and rather other aspects of geekdom, which is not a bad thing.

I haven't told much about myself in that last paragraph, have I?

Okay, I have a passionate love for movies, comics and television shows.  Which ones, will come out with each subsequent episode of the USG podcast.  I am a dad to a wonderful little boy named Oliver who is well on his way to being a geek himself and I am a psychology major going for my bachelor's degree.

I was born in China but raised in the United States. When I was old enough he returned to China and learned Martial Arts and became an international superstar with my karate movies. Upon my return to the states, I developed my own fighting style Jeet Kun Do.  Wait, that's not part of my story.  That's Bruce Lee.  Okay, ignore that last part about the Bruce Lee thing.  Yes I am a fan of Mr. Lee...

*Ahem*

Some of my favorite movies include Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Trek (2009), The Muppet Movie, Star Wars, Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Ratatouille, Wall-E, Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Wererabbit, The Godfather, Around The World In 80 Days (The one with David Niven and Cantinflas, the one with Jackie Chan sucked), Hard Boiled, The Blues Brothers, Serenity, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men 2, Spider-Man 2, and The Incredibles.  I like a lot of different genres and styles.  I have an unnatural love for blaxploitation movies and any movie that has a really neat looking action sequences.  I also have a love for movies from the 1980's, specifically the Goonies, The Lost Boys, and Karate Kid.

I think that's all you need to know about me for the moment.  I am looking forward to this new show and talking about all other things that make my geeky heart go pitter patter.

Power to the different!  Stay geeky!
